This movie is of a Drosophila melanogaster early embryo (cycle 10-12) expressing a GFP-tagged centrosomal protein called TACC (transforming, acidic, coiled-coil protein). GFP-TACC marks the movement and behavior of centrosomes in Drosophila early embryogenesis. In early embryonic stages, Drosophila embryos divide syncytially, giving rise to the synchronous behavior observed. Centrsosomes divide very early in the cell cycle, in interphase, and then migrate to opposite poles of the nucleus. The cycle repeats in the next interphase. Time lapse 4D spinning disk confocal microscopy images were acquired every 8 seconds and are played at 6 frames/second. The images were acquired with a Nikon microscope (a X40 objective) and a Perkin-Elmer laser spinning disk. The program used to capture, pseudocolor, and process the images was Metamorph.
