Description

A nascent digestive vacuole with several acidosome-like vesicles docked at its cytosolic surface. The presence of the microtubules from the oral ribs signifies that this vacuole is still attached to the oral region. These ribbons continue on into the cell as the deep fiber. TEM taken on 1/29/65 by R. Allen with RCA EMU3F operating at 50kV. Neg. 16,000X. The raw negative was scanned with an Epson Perfection V750 Pro and this high resolution image is best used for quantitative analysis. Technical Details

Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. Additional information available at (http://www5.pbrc.hawaii.edu/allen/).
