Striated band spanning the base of a longitudinal ridge (kinetodesmal fibers are seen in the ridge in cross section). The epiplasm appears absent from the top of the ridge or is replaced by two thickenings connected by thin filaments. Observing from outside the cell looking from the posterior toward the anterior direction. TEM taken on 12/9/70 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A operating at 75kV. Neg. 37,750X.
Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. The raw negative was scanned with an Epson Perfection V750 Pro and this high resolution image is best used for quantitative analysis.
