Posterior end of the buccal cavity with a nascent phagosome attached to the cytopharynx. The ribbed wall has ended and the cytopharynx is greatly reduced. The quadrulus goes to the end of the buccal cavity but the peniculi have ended, one or two rows of cilia at a time. The filamentous reticulum still covers the floor of the buccal cavity. Acidosomes are bound to the nascent phagosome and bundles of postoral microtubules lie close to the right edge of the developing phagosome. TEM taken on 1/31/74 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A operating at 75kV. Neg. 7,100X.
Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. The raw negative was scanned with an Epson Perfection V750 Pro and this high resolution image is best used for quantitative analysis.
