Contractile vacuole in the opisthe of a dividing cell. This is presumably the mature CV of the original “mother” cell. Spongiome tubules form large regions of additional membrane on two sides of the CV. The CV contains membrane-like layers that may be lipid. A food vacuole is observed containing expanded trichocysts of Paramecium. TEM taken on 5/20/69 by R. Allen with Philips 300 operating at 60kV. Neg. 5,000X. The raw film was scanned with an Epson Perfection V750 Pro. This high resolution image is suitable for quantitative analysis. Additional information available at (http://www5.pbrc.hawaii.edu/allen/).
