At the posterior end of the buccal cavity the right side of the cytopharynx can be seen where it meets the left side. The right side has a groove in which microtubules lie parallel to the long axis of the groove and are bound to the membrane along their length. The ends of the ribbed wall lie ventral to this groove and have a filamentous reticulum covering the ribs. Bundles of postoral microtubules border the ribs and extend far into the cytosol. TEM taken on 2/29/80 by R. Allen with Hitachi HU11A operating at 75kV. Neg. 8,500X. Bar = 0.5µm.
Standard glutaraldehyde fixation followed by osmium tetroxide, dehydrated in alcohol and embedded in an epoxy resin. Microtome sections prepared at approximately 75nm thickness. The negative was printed to paper and the image was scanned to Photoshop. This digitized image is available for qualitative analysis.
