A micrograph of Tetrahymena showing a transverse ribbon starting from the anterior right side of the proximal end of a basal body (out of section plane) and crossing under the pellicle to end under the longitudinal ribbon in the adjacent ridge crest. The epiplasm separates the two ribbons. Mitochondria often lie in ridges and the crescent end of kinetodesmal fiber, a dictyosome, and the endosomal membrane is seen. TEM taken on 8/25/67 by R. Allen with Philips 200 operating at 60kV. Neg. 19,200X. Bar = 0.2µm. The negative was printed to paper and the image was scanned to Photoshop. This digitized image is available for qualitative analysis. An unprocessed, high resolution version of this image (CIL:34728) is in the library and available for quantitative analysis.
