Figures 293 and 294 from Chapter 10 (Lipochrome Pigment) of 'The Cell, 2nd Ed.' by Don W. Fawcett M.D. The density of brown cytoplasmic inclusions identified as lipofuscin, or lipochrome pigment increase in aging cells, particularly in the myocardium, shown here from cat cardiac tissue. In these two panels from the right ventricular papillary muscle of an aging cat, there is an abundance of lipofuscin pigment and mitochondria in the sarcoplasm, as well as numberous small particls of glycogen.
